What to do when you lose your pet!Lost Pets
When looking for a lost pet, never under estimate the distance your animal will travel. You may want to drive or ride a bike when looking to cover more areas. Always use a happy voice when shouting your pet’s name. If you don’t they may think they are in trouble and stay in a hiding place. Tips if you lose your pet: 1. Notify Canyon Hills Pet Watch (CHPW), web@canyonhillspetwatch.com. We will send out emails to all participants to be on the lookout. 2. Go to Animal Friends of the Valley Shelter to
look for your pet everyday. They get so many animals
daily that they may not be able to help you over
the phone. Give them a picture of your pet with
your phone number, but still go everyday to search. 3. Post your lost pet information on the Animal Friends of the Valley web site. http://www.animalfriendsofthevalleys.com/page4.html 4. Post your lost pet information on Canyon Hills Pet Watch web site. You can upload a picture here. Click Here 5. Please do not post flyers on mailboxes. You can be fined. What to do when you find a stray pet!It is never recommended that you approach a stray animal especially, if you are walking your dog. You can call Animal Friends of the Valley and they will contact Animal Control. Phone: 951.674.0618 during hours or 951.506.5069 after hours. If you do take in a lost pet we recommend the following: Put the animal in a place where he is safe and cool. Give him water. Keep him away from your pets. This is important because you do not know if the animal is healthy or friendly to others. If the animal has tags attempt to contact the owner. If they don’t have owner information, but do have a license tag, you can contact Animal Friends of the Valley and they will attempt to reach the owner. If the animal does not have tags, it is possible that they are micro-chipped. You can take the animal to any vet in the area and they can scan for the micro-chip which may or may not hold owner current information. Take a picture if you have a digital camera and email to CHPW. We will attempt to identify through our Pet Watch registry. If not, we can still email CHPW participants who may know the animal’s owner. You can post a found pet on Animal
Friends of the Valley website You can also post a found pet on
CHPW website under found
pets. Were can upload a picture of the pet you
found. You can take the pet to Animal Friends
of the Valley shelter where the owner may be looking
for him. Animal Control will also pick the animal
up, but may not be able to come right away. If the animal seems friendly you
can walk them on a leash in the neighborhood. Someone
may be driving around looking for him. Please do not post flyers on the mailboxes. You can be fined. If you choose to post flyers in the neighborhood be sure to take them down once the pet is returned to the owner or after 3 days. If the pet is returned notify CHPW. We love success
stories. |
